Ceiling Insulation Installation

The scorching heat of summer is much less noticeable with ceiling insulation installed.

Proper insulation in the ceiling area is crucial for maintaining comfortable indoor temperatures and reducing energy consumption. Whether you’re looking to insulate your ceiling for the first time or upgrade the existing insulation in your roof space, Amelior Insulation has got you covered.

BENEFITS OF INSTALLING CEILING INSULATION

When taking steps to improve the thermal comfort and energy efficiency of your living environment, ceiling insulation installation remains our number one recommendation for performance and cost effectiveness. It’s a smart decision with numerous benefits. Here are some reasons why you should prioritise insulating your ceiling:

Enhanced Energy Efficiency
Ceiling insulation acts as a barrier, preventing the transfer of heat between your home’s interior and the external environment. By effectively insulating your ceiling, you can significantly reduce heat loss during colder months and minimise heat gain in the warmer months. This improved thermal insulation helps your HVAC system work more efficiently, reducing energy consumption and ultimately lowering your utility bills. Installing ceiling insulation is highly necessary for an energy efficient house.

Optimal Temperature Regulation
If you are finding that despite running your HVAC system, your home is still cold in winter and hot in summer, properly installed ceiling insulation will result in a more stable and comfortable indoor temperature year-round. This temperature regulation enhances your overall comfort and potentially avoids the need to upgrade your existing heating or cooling system. Anyone who’s ever lived in Canberra knows how cold the nights can get during winter, with regular sub-zero temperatures. Installing or upgrading your home’s ceiling insulation should be first on your list.

Acoustic Ceiling Insulation for Effective Noise Reduction
In addition to its thermal properties, ceiling insulation also comes with sound-absorbing benefits. This applies even if the insulation isn’t specifically labelled as acoustic or ceiling sound insulation. All bulk insulation material help to minimise airborne noise transmission, such as traffic or aircraft noise, making your indoor spaces quieter and more peaceful. Whether you want to create a tranquil home office or just enjoy a more restful night’s sleep, installing insulation in your roof space establishes a permanent sound barrier that reduces unwanted noise.

Environmental Sustainability
Ceiling insulation installation is an eco-friendly choice that contributes to a greener future. By reducing our reliance on artificial heating and cooling, we can decrease our carbon footprint and help conserve energy resources, beneficial for combatting global boiling. Insulation acts as an effective insulation material, trapping heat within your home and reducing the need for constant temperature adjustments. By investing in ceiling insulation, you participate in creating a more sustainable living environment.

Ceiling Insulation – An Easy Investment Decision
While there is an initial cost involved in ceiling insulation installation, it offers long-term financial benefits. The energy savings alone will offset the cost of the insulation installation over time, making it a wise investment that will pay itself off – typically within just a few years.

Looking at selling your property? Having properly installed ceiling insulation already in place is an attractive feature for any potential homebuyer. As energy prices continue to rise, energy-efficient homes will remain in high demand, and having a well-insulated ceiling can increase your property’s resale value. Ceiling insulation installation not only improves your own quality of life but also enhances the appeal and resale potential of your home.

TYPES OF CEILING INSULATION

By far the most commonly installed types of ceiling insulation materials are glasswool and polyester insulation Both these materials are highly effective in reducing heat transfer. These two popular options are excellent choices for ceiling insulation materials, and their thermal performance will be practically speaking identical, for the same R-Value. (In other words, an R5.0 glasswool will provide the same thermal benefit as an R5.0 polyester).

The key differences between these two types of ceiling insulation materials are relating to their acoustic and hypoallergenic properties.

Glasswool ceiling insulation (in particular high-density ceiling insulation which is specifically designed for optimal acoustic performance) will generally perform better when it comes to reducing sound transfer via the roof cavity and into the home.

Polyester ceiling insulation is favoured by many ceiling insulation installers due to its zero-itch properties. As the polyester material contains no breathable fibres, they are an excellent choice for families prone to allergies or respiratory sensitivities. This insulation is manufactured both in rectangular segments (batts) but may also come in rolls.

Both of these common types of ceiling insulation are resistant to moisture absorption, and in normal humid conditions will not absorb and retain moisture from the air.

Note that ceiling insulation should not be allowed to get wet – it leads to mould growth. If earlier installed ceiling insulation has suffered water damage due to, e.g., a severe storm or an ordinary roof leak, then we recommend booking in an insulation removal and replacement to get rid of the damaged ceiling insulation and replace it with new batts or rolls. If water has also damaged the underlying plasterboard, then make sure you allow this to dry out completely before installing new ceiling insulation on top.

HOW IS CEILING INSULATION INSTALLED?

Installing ceiling insulation in existing houses is a labour-intensive process that requires good balance, teamwork, mental stamina and an above-average level of physical fitness. Since many roof spaces are tightly confined, ceiling insulation installers are often required to work in hot, cramped and dusty conditions for hours on end. This often the case with underfloor insulation installations too.

Typically, access to the ceiling space is via a manhole inside the house. Once inside the roof, our ceiling insulation installers, usually working in a team of 2 or 3, will conduct a visual safety inspection of the roof space area, ensuring that each worker is aware of any possible hazards.

The ceiling insulation bags are then typically pre-loaded into the ceiling space via the manhole. In some cases, access may need to be obtained from the outside through the roof itself. Usually this involves temporarily removing a few roof tiles.

The ceiling insulation batts are carefully cut to fit between the ceiling joists and laid in place. Our ceiling insulation installers always take extra care to ensure a snug and secure fit without any unnecessary gaps or compressions. Once the ceiling insulation is in place, our team will check over everything to ensure a neat and tidy finish.

Amelior Insulation’s hard-working ceiling insulation installers have the equipment, experience and expertise to manage the entire ceiling insulation installation process. Our capable team will keep you in the loop and answer any questions you may have along the way, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free installation experience.
